Norfolk police investigate overnight homicide

Norfolk, Va. – Police are now investigating an overnight homicide in Norfolk.

A call was received at 2:12 a.m. for a “Suspicious Situation” in the 1200 block of Middle Avenue.

Police arrived and searched for two males alleged to have been seen getting into a vehicle.

The search for the two males led officers to a home in the 900 block of Rugby Street, where a broken window was located.

Officers called for a K-9 to respond and clear the residence.

Police found an unresponsive man inside of the home with injuries consistent with gunshot wounds.

The victim was pronounced deceased on the scene at approximately 2:47 a.m.

The identification of the victim will be released after next of kin is notified.

Homicide detectives are investigating the incident for motive, suspects, and witnesses, police say.
