James City County, Va. – A two-person light sport aircraft crashed into the James River Saturday evening.

Virginia State police say a two-seat aircraft crashed into the James River Saturday around 8:30pm.

The aircraft stalled when the pilot, 62-year-old John Williams of Williamsburg, slowed below minimum safe speed and stalled, according to police.

His passenger, 49-year-old Andrew Jackson was hospitalized with non-life threatening injuries.

The aircraft was recovered from the river by the James City County Fire and Rescue dive team and towed to Mr. Williams home.

State police say they are consulting with the Commonwealth Attorney’s Office on a possible investigation.
