Chesapeake, Va – A 59-year-old man is dead after police say he crashed into a tree at the intersection of Battlefield Boulevard and Saint Brides Road in Chesapeake.

The accident happened around 1 p.m. Sunday afternoon.

Police say 59-year-old David Melick was driving a vehicle that left the roadway and struck a power pole. Melick was transported to Chesapeake Regional Medical Center where he was pronounced dead.

The four other people in the car, all family members, were transported by medic to local hospitals. Three of the four remain in the hospital.

The cause is under investigation but they believe a medical condition could have played a role.
