elephant1A baby elephant refused to leave his mother’s side after she died in Kenya.

Several groups including the David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust, Kenya Wildlife Service, and Save the Elephants had been watching the mom, Cherie, as she fought for her life.

On the David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust YouTube page, the group said Cherie died of a stomach infection in April; her five-month-old was beside her the entire time.

The rescuers took the baby elephant, who they named Sokotei, to an elephant orphanage at Nairobi National Park.
