Earlier this year NewsChannel 3 took action for Alyssa Briggs, a Gloucester woman who uses a wheelchair to get around.

She wants to be able to do what so many of us take for granted – get in the car and just drive wherever and whenever she wants. Yet she’ll need a special van in order to do that, so she entered a contest to win a specially equipped van that would let her drive using hand controls.

Alyssa told NewsChannel 3’s Todd Corillo on Wednesday morning that she’s been selected as one of the semi finalists in the contest. When voting ended Friday, she was in the top 10% of vote getters!

Thanks to NewsChannel 3 viewers Taking Action and Getting Results with their votes, Alyssa is now one step closer to her independence

A panel of judges will read the stories of all 141 semi finalists and decide who will win the 4 vans. Winners will be notified May 30.

Alyssa knows it’s still a long shot but is thrilled to have made it this far.

To all the amazing viewers who voted for her, Alyssa shares “I couldn’t have done this without you, because of all of you I am now one step closer to my dream. Thank you”
