Chaplain (COL) Lilton Marks Sa.

Today we honor Chaplain Colonel Lilton Marks Senior.
He is the pastor of “The United Church of Christ” in Chesapeake.
He served more than 40 years in the National Guard.
He was commissioned in 1967 in the infantry, after attending the Louisiana National Guards Officer Candidate School.
He was the first African American to be commissioned in the Louisiana National Guards.
He entered active duty November 1968 as an infantry officer.

As a military chaplain he pastored in Belgium, Germany, and Iraq.
He received a number of awards, including two legion of merit medals, two bronze star medals, and the purple heart.
He departed active duty in September 1975 and retired from the military in June 2007.
