Virginia Beach, Va. (WTKR) – Two intersections along Laskin Road in Virginia Beach will be converted to four-way stop intersections Sunday Morning.

The intersections impacted are the Baltic Avenue/Holly Road and Arctic Avenue approaches to Laskin Road.

Friday, NewsChannel 3 was there as Public Works crews installed the new stop signs that include solar powered LED lights.

The signs will remain covered until Sunday morning.

The Public Works Department says their traffic engineers have studied the intersections since the Laskin Road corridor reopened in 2013.

The changes are being made “based on traffic volumes on the roadways, vehicular and pedestrian safety concerns and driver expectations,” according to a release from the city.

Sue Johnson works at a business at the corner of Laskin Road and Arctic Avenue.

She says near misses are the norm at the intersection.

“I’ve heard a lot of honking as far as people going straight and running the stop sign. They’re just, I mean, near misses inches away,” Johnson told NewsChannel 3’s Todd Corillo.
