Tornado watch now canceled for S.E. Virginia and N.E. North Carolina

UPDATE: The tornado watch has now been canceled. 

A tornado watch is in effect for our entire viewing area in Hampton Roads/Southeastern Virginia and Northeastern North Carolina.

The watch includes the Virginia counties of Gloucester, Isle of Wight, Mathews, Middlesex, York as well as the independent cities of Chesapeake, Franklin, Hampton, Newport News, Norfolk, Portsmouth, Poquoson, Suffolk, Virginia Beach and Williamsburg.

The watch includes the North Carolina counties of Bertie, Camden, Chowan, Currituck, Dare County, Hyde, Gates, Hertford, Pasquotank, Perquimans and Tyrrell.

Showers and thunderstorms with heavy rainfull are expected today and tonight. Some of the the storms may produce damaging wind gusts and large hail.

The conditions area favorable for the formation of tornadoes.

In addition to the tornado watch, a flash flood watch has been issued for low-lying portions of Virginia that includes James City County and Surry County.
