It was at the age of six when Nikol Hristova hit her first tennis ball. From that point forward, she knew this was a game for her.

"When I first started playing, it was the same thing every day, but the more I practiced, the more I started to enjoy and love it," she told NewsChannel 3 before one of her practices. "I can't imagine my life without it."

The Old Dominion sophomore was recently named the Conference USA Player of the Week. A first for Nicole and a first for the women's tennis team.

"I feel so happy right now. I don't know how to react at first," she says as a huge smile beams across her face.

She plays at the number one position: a position that is counted on to get the team an early point in a match.

The Conference USA Tournament will be held this week on her home courts. And for Nikol, it doesn't matter if it is played indoors or out, she approaches the game the same way.

"I go on the court and I know I have to fight to the last point because there are six other girls counting on me."
