Norfolk, Va. (WTKR) - After 16 months of renovations and expansion, the Chrysler Museum of Art is set to re-open next month.

On Tuesday, Chrysler Museum Director Bill Hennessey took NewsChannel 3 on a behind-the-scenes tour to see the progress.

"I don’t think there’s a corner of the building we haven’t touched or done something to," he told NewsChannel 3's Todd Corillo.

The main building of the museum closed in January 2013 for a $24 million expansion and renovation, part of a larger $45 million capital campaign.

"We’re adding new galleries – we wanted to make sure we had space to show as much as possible of our wonderful collection," Hennessey said. "It gave us a chance to rethink and reinstall the entire collection."

The Chrysler Museum will re-open on May 10th.

The following week, from May 17-26, a giant inflatable rubber duck will grace the Hague in front of the museum.

"Like the Chrysler Museum itself, we like to think it makes people smile, it makes people happy, it’s a gathering place to come with your friends and family, the duck has wonderful personality and makes everyone smile," Hennessey explained.
