UPDATE: Man arrested in Newport News shooting involving City Council candidate

UPDATE: Police have arrested 25-year-old Antonio J. Crews of Newport News in connection to the Ivy Avenue shooting which occurred on Monday evening. He was arrested Wednesday at his residence at approximately 12:38 p.m. He has been charged with reckless handling of a firearm, discharging a firearm in public, and shooting into an occupied vehicle.

Police say that after the 22-year-old man was shot in the 600 block of Aqua Vista Drive, Crews, who knows the victim, chased after the suspected shooter. Once in the 600 block of Ivy Avenue, Crews discharged his firearm after hearing gunfire.

At that time, a 28-year-old woman’s vehicle was struck in the crossfire.

The woman was inside the vehicle at the time of the shooting and she was not injured. She is identified as Teunsha Vick, a Newport News City Council candidate and cousin of NFL quarterback Michael Vick.

She was not the intended target of the shooting.

Police continue to investigate the shooting of the 22-year-old man and ask that anyone with information to please call Crime Line at 1-888-LOCK-U-UP.
