Driver leads Chesapeake police on chase during traffic stop and gets away

Chesapeake, Va. – Chesapeake Police are now looking for a person who they say got away after a pursuit on Friday evening.

Officers say they conducted a traffic stop on a Lexus for equipment violations at around 5:30 p.m. in the Shady Lane and Timer Lane area.

As they approached the vehicle, they say the driver took off and that’s when the chase started. The chase went through several parts of the South Norfolk area of Chesapeake.

At around 5:45 p.m., the vehicle stopped on Mayon Drive after slamming into a fence.

The driver got away after a foot chase.

K9 units were on the scene and lost track of the driver. Officials say the driver of the vehicle was able to get away after getting a ride.

After searching the vehicle, officers say they discovered narcotics and a handgun inside. There were no injuries.

Charges are pending.
