Hampton, Va. - For eight months, Hampton firefighter David Peters stalked, harassed and threatened his ex-girlfriend and her family according to court documents.

At one point, police say 54-year-old Peters vandalized the woman's home with lug nuts and metal ball bearings damaging the vinyl siding on her house.

Records show she lives a few houses down from him.

Jan Dail is their neighbor. She says she would often see Peters bring over cups of coffee to his then girlfriend.

"It's been on and off. Even last summer it was on and off,” says Dail. "Obviously he had some very intense feelings for Nicole.”

Investigators say Peters would send obscene, vulgar and profane text messages through anonymous numbers to his ex, as well as her family including her young son.

After vandalizing her home, police say Peters sent his ex a text reading, "You didn't see me dumb a** b****"

The anonymous numbers were traced back to Peters' computers.

Peters admitted to investigators that he broke into his ex-girlfriend's home and stole an earring he bought her from her bedroom.

Peters is now in the custody of the Hampton Sheriff's Office.

"I'm just going to keep my eyes out a little bit closer. Whenever there's somebody who's not behaving in the norm, you know the neighborhood starts paying closer attention to what's going on,” says Dail.

Peters is currently on administrative leave from Hampton Fire and Rescue.
