Gale Warning issued for Virginia and N. Carolina waters, Chesapeake Bay

The National Weather Service has issued a Gale Warning that will remain in effect through Thursday evening.

The warning affects the Chesapeake Bay, the Currituck Sound, and Atlantic coastal waters from Fenwick Island, Delaware to Currituck Beach in NE North Carolina extending 20 miles out to sea.

It also affects the James River from Jamestown to the Hampton Roads Bridge Tunnel, the York River and the Rappahannock River through Thursday morning.

A wind advisory will also be in effect from 6:00 p.m. to 11:00 a.m. for Coastal Virginia Beach, the Eastern Shore and the Outer Banks.

** Gusty winds may increase to 45-50 mph

** Waves 1-2 ft.

Operating a vessel in gale conditions requires experience and properly equipped vessels. It is highly recommended that mariners without the proper experience seek safe harbor prior to the onset of gale conditions.
