Fort Macon, NC – Three boaters are safe thanks to the Coast Guard and a Good Samaritan who responded to the scene.

The boaters were rescued about 35 miles south of Fort Macon, NC on Tuesday.

At around noon, Coast Guard crews received a call from the operator of the boat Reel Safe. They told crews they were taking on water.

The captain of a 485-foot cargo ship Islandia received the urgent marine information broadcast and diverted the ship to help out.

The cargo ship was on the scene at around 1 p.m. and rescued the boaters.

The Jayhawk crew arrived minutes later and they hoisted the boaters into the helicopter and they were then taken to Coast Guard Sector Field Office Fort Macon.
