Update: The bridge has now reopened. If conditions worsen, it will be shut down again.

Portsmouth, Va. – The West Norfolk Bridge is now shut down in both directions due to icy conditions.

At around 6:42 p.m. on Tuesday, police responded to a hit and run accident on the eastbound side of the bridge.

While officers were responding to this accident, another happened at 7:14 p.m. This also happened in the eastbound direction and involved a black SUV. There were minor injuries involved.

Then yet another accident occurred at 7:24 p.m. in the westbound lanes of the bridge. This one was a two vehicle accident.

Due to the icy conditions on the bridge, it has been shut down in both directions.

They expect to have the bridge closed for about two hours.

They are now waiting for sand trucks to clear the bridge.
