Crews respond to Newport News house fire

Newport News, Va. – The Newport News Fire Department responded to a structure fire in the 900 block of 28th Street at 1:21 p.m. Thursday afternoon.

Crews arrived at 1:24 p.m. and reported smoke showing from the right-hand side of the duplex building.

A quick attack was initiated and the fire was contained in the area of a utility closet. The cause has not been determined and is under investigation, officials say.

There were no reported injuries, and fire crews remain on the scene at this time conducting overhaul operations.
