This week’s People Taking Action recipient is only six-years-old and she’s already making a difference in the lives of those who need to be cheered up most.
Tynniah Cannady, a survivor herself, gave back to the hospital that helped her, by donating boxes of toys to the children at Children’s Hospital of the King’s Daughters.
Tynniah was transferred to CHKD minutes after her delivery due to a heart condition. Then doctors discovered a different problem--a disorder that must be constantly monitored.
“It causes cancer to the liver and kidneys, so she has to get ultrasounds and had blood work up until she was about four. So they cut out the blood work and just do ultrasounds now,” says her mother.
Every three months, she has those ultrasounds, and the results have been great so far.
“She sees the children when she comes and every time she comes, she gets sad and she says they can’t come home and I can. I wanna do something for them,” Tynniah’s mother says.
So Mom shared Tynniah’s wish on Facebook, at work and church.
“I got baby toys, games, puzzles and arts and crafts and baby dolls,” she says.
It was over a thousand toys!
Tynniah donated all the toys to CHKD and we presented her with a NewsChannel 3 Taking Action Award along with a $100 gift card from our partners at Southern Bank.
