It’s “Foodie Friday” for a great cause!

Chef Leon Buenviaje of CP Shuckers joins the WGNT morning show today to demonstrate how to make lumpia, in honor of this weekend’s event in Virginia Beach.

Help the Red Cross this Sunday with Bonfire Magazine at The Marina at Marina Shores to benefit the Philippines.

Bonfire Magazine’s Holiday Giving Celebration

A Food Event, Philippines Typhoon Relief

Date: Sunday, December 8, 6:30 p.m. to 9 p.m.

Location: Marina Shores, Virginia Beach, 2100 Marina Shores Dr.

Tickets – $15 at the door

Bonfire Magazine celebrates local living in Hampton Roads. On Sunday, December 8, at 6:30 p.m., the magazine will host a Holiday Giving Celebration to raise funds for the American Red Cross Philippines Typhoon Relief. Bonfire will be joined by several of the area’s best chefs donating food, time, and talent for this night.

Entertainment will be provided by DJ Joe FU.

Special guests include: Kristen Crowley from WTKR NewsChannel 3, Ron Villanueva, the Bonfire Team, and more.

Attendees will be treated to wonderful dishes from the chefs, entertainment, raffle prizes and special presentations all night.

Lumpia Recipe:

Ingredients

1 pound of ground beef

1 onion

Cup of celery

Cup of carrots

3 cloves garlic

1 egg

Salt and pepper

Tablespoon of oyster sauce

Spring roll wrappers

1) Cook ground beef/drain

2) Sauté (diced) vegetables until soft

3) Mix beef , vegetables, egg , oyster sauce, egg and relish until incorporated well.

4) Place one thawed spring roll wrapper on a dry spot facing you, like a diamond.

5 ) Place 2 ounces of mix close to the bottom of diamond/wrapper. Fold in both sides roll up towards top, 3 cm from top brush water or egg wash, roll, and seal.

To Cook:

Cover floor of saute pan with oil. Heat to medium heat. Pan fry 2 to 3 minutes per side. Serve with sweet and sour sauce, or sauce of choice.
