Chesapeake fundraiser uses CrossFit gym to promote cancer awareness

Posted

Chesapeake, Va. - People in Chesapeake are taking action to raise money for cancer research while helping people to get in shape. A fundraising workout was held at CrossFit Chesapeake on 1009 Scenic Parkway.

As the organizer of the event, Chesapeake Police Department Lieutenant Troy Lindsey says the program helped to save his life. In June, he was diagnosed with renal cell carcinoma and lymphoma. He says he had recently gotten in shape through crossfit. His doctors say that his participation in the workout program is what helped them to detect the 11 lb cancer that had eaten through his right kidney.

Proceeds from the fundraiser were given to SURF (Schellhammer Urological Research Foundation) to benefit others affected by urological cancers.
