Virginia Beach, Va. - A Virginia Beach teacher arrested on drug charges following a narcotics investigation at Tallwood High School made his first appearance in court on Friday.

40-year-old Christopher Brydge is accused of having drugs at school.

According to arrest warrants filed in court, the music teacher was found with anywhere from one-half ounce to five pounds of pot along with heroin.

Court documents say police discovered the drugs in a locked box, although those documents don't specify where that box was located.

Brydge stopped for a moment outside the court house to wait for a woman that he was with, but had nothing to say.

He's charged with possession with the intent to distribute marijuana, sale of narcotics on or near school property and possession of a controlled substance.

Right now police say there's no evidence that he sold drugs to kids or on school property.

Brydge appeared in court this morning for a determination of counsel. He has hired his own attorney for the case and will back in court in December for a preliminary hearing.
