Kearsarge Amphibious Ready Group returns home

Norfolk, Va. - More than 4,000 Sailors and Marines serving in the Kearsarge Amphibious Ready Group returned to Norfolk and Virginia Beach on Thursday.

The USS Kearsarge, USS San Antonio and USS Carter Hall came home after an eight-month deployment conducted in support of maritime security operations, crisis response, theater security cooperation and providing a forward naval presence in the U.S. Navy’s 5th and 6th Fleet areas of operation.

The Kearsarge Amphibious Ready Group is commanded by Capt. James P. Cody, commander, Amphibious Squadron 4. The Kearsarge and San Antonio will return Naval Station Norfolk and the Carter Hall with come home to Joint Expeditionary Base Little Creek-Fort Story.

The embarked 26th Marine Expeditionary Unit, stationed at Camp Lejeune, is commanded by Col. Matthew G. St. Clair and is comprised of the 26th Marine Expeditionary Unit, which includes a Ground Combat Element, Battalion Landing Team, 3rd Battalion, 2nd Marine Regiment; Aviation Combat Element, Marine Medium Tiltrotor Squadron.
