Update: Victim and suspect identified from shooting at a party in Newport News

Newport News, Virginia - According to officials, Newport News officers working extra duty at the Magnuson Hotel heard gunshots in the parking lot around 2:00am and immediately began searching for victims.

Two men with gunshot wounds were located in the parking lot, both 23 years-old and from Hampton.

One man was shot to death and two others injured after an altercation at a party inside the Magnuson Hotel on Omni Boulevard in Newport News Saturday.

According to police, the deceased victim has been identified as Victor Rasheem Russell. The suspect in this shooting investigation is 24 year old, Matthew O'Neil Allen.

Allen has been charged with one count of murder and malicious wounding and two counts of use of a firearm in the commission of a felon.

Allen was treated at a local hospital for injuries to his face and head. He is in the custody of the Newport News City Jail.
