Portsmouth, Va. - A job fair for the Elizabeth River Crossings Projects was held Thursday at the Portsmouth Renaissance.

At least one of the contractors present says they are looking to hire 600 workers but competition is fierce as the lines to enter the job fair stretched out the door.

The line started an hour before the doors even opened.

"There are lots of positions both relating to computer and customer service side of things as well as the actual work being done in building the tunnel," says Leila Rice with Elizabeth River Crossings.

Next week there is a hearing about whether tolls can be charged. But Rice says the work will continue regardless of the outcome in court.

"The hearing relates to tolling, the project was not ruled unconstitutional so the project continues on schedule," she says.

And Rice also noted only around 12 % of the funding would come from tolls. They have plenty of pockets of money from other sources as well, and that will be used to pay potential workers who were here handing out resumes.
