Virginia Beach, Va. - A poster advertising "Part 2" of a violent Oceanfront weekend turned out to be a hoax.

Police sources say the hoax has gotten a lot of hype. They are worried that the fake event might still draw plenty of people to the Oceanfront.

It’s been more than two months since an event called College Beach Week flooded the Oceanfront with tens of thousands of young people. The Oceanfront was awash in bad behavior, brawls, robberies and stabbings.

And with some in the city still reeling, they’ve had to deal with a slick flier promising another event, just like the last one. Officially, police will only say they’re monitoring it. But several police and city sources said officers have figured out this is fake, a hoax. Virginia is even spelled wrong.

But in this case, police tell me they can’t just ignore it, because the imagined event might become a real problem. They’re concerned that so many people have seen this, and passed it around, that it could still draw large crowds to Atlantic Avenue later this month.

So our sources say the department will staff the Beach with more officers to make sure the hoax flier doesn’t lead to a repeat of a very real problem.
