Virginia Beach, Va. - Kidnapping, abduction, sexual battery, and motor vehicle theft—these are all accusations facing 33-year-old Edwin Rosario.
Police say Rosario drove a 17-year-old girl nearly 600 miles from Cleveland to an Ocean Front motel Mother's Day weekend, and held her captive there.
Rosario has a criminal history with similar charges. In 2002, he was indicted in Cleveland on several rape charges as well as kidnapping with sexual motivation. Rosario ended up pleading guilty to gross sexual imposition, which is a sexual offense and felony in Ohio.
Cleveland police reports given to NewsChannel 3, reveal new details about the events leading up to Rosario’s arrest Sunday, May 12th.
Two days earlier, on May 10th, the girl's mother found out Rosario and her daughter had a sexual relationship, according to a missing persons report.
She had forbid her daughter from seeing Rosario, who was the girl's music teacher at church.
The next morning, the teen was gone. She was on her way to Virginia with Rosario in a stolen truck. Police say that truck belonged to Rosario’s father, who had reported it stolen that morning.
When the two checked into the Sea Shell Motel on Atlantic Avenue, court records say things quickly turned violent. Once inside the room, police say he tried to make the teen dye her hair and threatened to hurt her or himself with glass from a broken ashtray if she tried to escape. All these items were listed on a search warrant.
The two later went to a 7-eleven where the teen snuck away and called a relative for help. Once police were alerted, Rosario was arrested back at the motel for kidnapping.
Rosario is still behind bars in Virginia Beach.
