Twenty-four schools in Virginia may not have to worry about the pressures of some third-grade tests.

The schools applied for waivers from mandatory testing requirements in some subjects - so teachers can spend more time focusing on reading skills.

Seven schools from Hampton Roads have applied.

They include three schools in Norfolk.

Those schools want to be exempt from science, history and social studies SOLs.
