Local man places ad for a mom this Mother’s Day

Newport News, Va. - A NewsChannel 3 viewer is taking action to get a mom this Mother’s Day.

No, that’s not a joke. He’s a young man who has never known the love of a mother and he hopes someone out there will take on that role in his life.

It was the headline in The Daily Press classifieds that caught our attention.

“Boy Needs A Mom On Mothers Day 757”

The man who placed the ad is 25-year-old Christopher Page. The ad is an upgrade from the homemade signs he’s been holding on Warwick Boulevard on his off-days – a sign that says he’s an orphan begging for a family, willing to work for your love, caring and understanding.

“It makes me homeless in a way. I have a homeless heart,” he says.

Risking ridicule, he says he needs to put his story out there. NewsChannel 3’s Barbara Ciara met with him at a park where he said he was passed around from home to home growing up, having no idea what it’s like to have a real family.

But something about his approach – a 25-year-old looking for a surrogate mom – is, well, strangely different.

When asked if it occurred to him that someone might think his approach is creepy, Christopher replied, “Um, yes, it occurred to me. I mean, but like I said, I’m hoping to find someone caring and understanding.”

Barbara says that in the few minutes they spent together in the park, she could sense he was lacking something in his life. Like a proud kid, he wanted to show off a handstand he had perfected, complete with a bow.

“I mean, I know that I’m pretty much an adult. But I’m also a child,” he says.

So the question mark for this motherless man/child as we approach Mother’s Day weekend is – Will an online ad get him the thing he most desires?

And for those who may question his motives?

“I would just say, I need the same things that you need. I need the same thing your kids need, I’m just older,” he says.

He hopes his risk baring his heart in the classifieds will end with a reward of something that money cannot buy.

So far, he says he’s received prank phone calls and a meeting that ended with someone trying to attack him.

We’ll follow up with him next week to see if he made his mom connection.
