A Scottish cruise company has insured its luxury fleet for more than $1.5 million against damage by the Loch Ness Monster.

Jacobite Cruises carries more than 100,000 people on the Loch Ness every year.

Owner Freda Newton told The Scottish Sun, “I don’t know what the odds of this actually happening might be but this is Loch Ness and how silly would we look if it did and we weren’t covered for it?”

The deal was made with Inverness, Scotland insurers Towergate Moray Fifth last week, which happened to also mark the 80th anniversary of the first Loch Ness Monster sighting.

“This is probably the most unusual insurance request we have ever had, but we were delighted to provide cover to Jacobite Cruises,” said Bob Jack, director of Towergate Moray Fifth.
