People on the Peninsula, Middle Peninsula and Northern Neck have already received between 1 - 3" of snow and should expect to get another 1/2" - 1" through Sunday night.

People on the Southside should only expect to get a dusting and some areas will only see rain and sleet.

VDOT warns overnight temperatures will fall low enough to create the potential for slick conditions on

area roadways overnight and during the early morning hours, especially on bridges, overpasses and ramps.

Crews are applying a sand and salt abrasive mixture to moist pavement as needed, focusing on areas that typically freeze first such as bridges, overpasses and ramps.

Winter Driving Tips:

  • Make sure your vehicle is winter ready
  • Be sure to completely clear all windows, lights, and side mirrors before driving.
  • Keep an emergency driving kit in your car.
  • Wear your seat belt and don’t drive distracted.
  • Keep a safe distance of at least five seconds behind other vehicles.
  • Keep headlights on to increase visibility.
  • Be aware of potentially icy areas such as shady spots and bridges.
  • When driving on ice, don’t slam on your brakes. Turn slowly. Sudden changes can cause your car to spin out of control
