Proposed legislation in North Carolina would give local school districts more flexibility in when they start the school year, according to a report from the Daily Advance.
In 2012, schools could not open before Aug. 26, but the Daily Advance reports that under HB 129, schools would have the option to start no earlier than Aug. 1.
The Daily Advance says that school and county officials in Currituck Co. support the proposal, partly because it would let students end the fall semester before Christmas break.
