Two days after 21-year-old Torrey Anderson’s severely burned body was found near a burning vehicle in Carrollton, his family is desperate for answers.

Anderson's little sister, 8-year-old Trinity, remembers when her mother told her what happened.

"Why would somebody do that to my brother, “Trinity said. “I never wanted something like this to happen to him."

Officials with the medical examiner’s office say Anderson died from a gunshot wound, and then his body was found burned beyond recognition.

"Not only did they take him from us, but they made it so we could never touch him or hold him or give him that last kiss,” said Tamira Anderson, Torrey’s mother. “That would have been so much more comforting to me."

Investigators say Anderson had spent time behind bars in North Carolina but seemed to be on the right track.

Anderson lived in Murfreesboro with his grandparents and commuted to his job in Smithfield.

"He wanted to do more,” Tamira says. “He was going back to school. He wanted to save his money and he was just on the right path."

Investigators say Anderson had been staying with a woman in Newport News in the days before he died.

His mother says he hadn't mentioned knowing anyone there.

With so many unanswered questions, the family is pleading for any information about who murdered their son.

"I just want anybody that sees this video to please help us,” she says. “Please tell anything you know."

Police say right now, their investigation keeps leading them to the people Anderson was with in Newport News, who investigators still have not identified.
