Newschannel 3 saw the conditions of the dogs from the dog fighting ring and immediately reached out to the SPCA.

We took action and went to a pet store and loaded up on three carts of supplies.

Bag after bag was unloaded into the back of our SUV, and we then headed south.
When we arrived at the SPCA, volunteers were happy to see us, even before they saw all the goods we had bought.

"You really went all out. We do appreciate it and the shelter appreciates it," said Kim Parrish, the President of the SPCA of Northeastern North Carolina Board.

Parrish has been running around all day trying to figure out how the organization will be able to take care of the more than 80 dogs seized from the ring.

So she was glad to take a rest and NewsChannel 3 was more than happy to donate enough bags of dog food to give her a place to sit.

"This is going to be wonderful for our animals," Parrish said. "We've never had so many toys for them. The dogs will love it."

The SPCA of Northeastern North Carolina asked specifically for chew toys.

"It's great enrichment for the dogs who are in crates, or in runs, and gives them something to do," Parrish said.

After the dog fighting ring was broken up, the SPCA's already thin resources were stretched even further, now they're responsible for twice as many dogs.

"Phones have been ringing off the hook today," Parrish said. "People wanting to volunteer and bring donations in, bring in blankets, bring anything that they can."

The SPCA of Northeastern North Carolina is looking for beds for the dogs to sleep on, food, toys, and blankets.

If you'd like to take action and help, you can contact them at 252-338-5222 or mail them a check at 100 Wilson Road Elizabeth City, North Carolina 27909.
