Man in wheelchair robbed at Newport News convenience store

Newport News, Va. – Police are investigating after they say a customer in a wheelchair was robbed at a Newport News convenience store last week.

According to Newport News Police Spokesperson Harold Eley, it happened on Friday, February 1, 2013 shortly after 8 p.m. at the Mo’s Convenience Store, located on the corner of Warwick Boulevard and Old Courthouse Way.

A man described to be about 19 or 20 years old entered the store with a male friend. The victim, a 62-year-old Newport News man, was leaving the business using a wheelchair, when police say the suspect walked up behind him and demanded cash. The suspect reached into the victim’s pockets, and took several hundred dollars, then ran away.

The suspect is described as a black male, about 19 or 20 years old, wearing a blue jacket and a black cap with a red stripe.

This crime remains under investigation.
