Southampton Co., Va. - Virginia State Police confirm that one person has died as a result of a traffic accident Friday morning.
On January 4, 2013, at 10:48 a.m., Virginia State Police responded to a two vehicle accident on westbound Route 58, east of Armory Drive in Southampton County.
Police tell NewsChannel 3 that a tractor trailer traveling westbound struck a VDOT crash truck in the rear, ran off the road, and struck several trees. The driver of the tractor trailer died at the scene.
The driver has now been identified as Ormand Gregory Telford, 63, of Tastalia, North Carolina. Police say Telford was not wearing his seat belt and alcohol was not a factor in the crash. They say he was driving a flatbed truck/trailer with no load.
