Portsmouth, Va. – According to lottery officials, a Coast Guard petty officer matched the first five numbers in the October 26 Mega Millions drawing to win the game’s second prize.

Virginia Lottery officials say it took Jason Egnotovich almost six weeks to claim the $250,000 prize he won in Mega Millions. They say he had good reason for the delay: he was at sea. Egnotovich is a petty officer first class in the U. S. Coast Guard.

Egnotovich, who lives in Portsmouth, matched the first five numbers in the October 26 Mega Millions drawing to win the game’s second prize. He bought the winning ticket at Churchland Mini Mart, 4011 Cedar Lane in Portsmouth.

“I’m still in shock,” he told Lottery officials as he claimed his prize. “It hasn’t hit me yet.”

The winning numbers for that drawing were 4-15-24-36-40, and the Mega Ball number was 44. He selected the numbers on his ticket using important family dates. His ticket was one of just four nationwide to match the first five numbers in that drawing, and the only one in Virginia.

He said he has no immediate plans for his winnings.

Mega Millions drawings are held Tuesday and Friday nights at 11:00. Drawings are broadcast on TV stations across Virginia and streamed live at http://www.valottery.com and on the Lottery’s Facebook page. The odds of winning the $250,000 prize in Mega Millions are 1 in 3,904,701.
