Hampton, Va. – Hampton police have arrested a man in connection with a shooting Thursday that resulted in Hunter B Andrews, A.W.E. Bassette and Armstrong schools being placed on lockdown as a precautionary measure.
24-year-old Jerell Lamont Overton was arrested Friday morning and charged with one count of Malicious Wounding, one count of Use of a Firearm in Commission of a Felony and one count of Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon.

The shooting occurred around 8:54 am Thursday in the 400 block of Hampton Roads Ave. When police arrived the found a 22-year-old man who had been shot in the lower torso. He was transported to a local hospital and treated for non-life threatening injuries.
Police say the victim and Overton knew each other and got into a fight, during which Overton shot the victim.
Overton is currently in the Hampton City Jail.
