In Virginia Beach, the city's firefighters were honored for doing something they do every day—taking action and getting results and saving lives.

On Wednesday, the Beach Fire Department's Annual Awards Ceremony was held at Landstown High School.

Dozens of firefighters were recognized for responding to drownings, gunshot victims as well as life-threatening fires.

The fire department honored the firefighter of the year, Dan Fentress, the longest serving firefighter in the city.

The city also recognized the monumental effort of the fire department when it responded to that fiery jet crash into an apartment complex off Bird Neck Road last April.
