Tyrek Allen, one of Newport News and Hampton’s most wanted murder suspects, spoke out to NewsChannel 3 after his Thursday night arrest.

“[The police] put it on me, made me guilty,” said Allen from the Newport News jail. “I just want them to know that I'm not how the news made me seem, because they said a lot of stuff out there that made me out to be a bad person.”

Newport News police say in February, Allen shot and injured three people in their city.  Then in July, Hampton police say Allen and Floyd Taybron pulled up to a man walking on West Queen Street and shot him several times.  The man survived, but Newport News police say later that night, Allen shot and killed Darntrell Belle on 36th Street.

Allen told NewsChannel 3 he did not do any of it.

“I mean, that's sad to hear but like I said, I ain't had nothing to do with it,” Allen said.

Authorities launched an aggressive effort to find Allen several months ago.  Last month, NewsChannel 3 profiled him and Taybron in our Taking Action Against Crime series.

“I feel that it's wrong how they put me out there and blew me up like that and people just feeding into it and everybody just think I’m all crazy and I'm a psycho maniac,” Allen said.

Newport News police said a Thursday night CrimeLine tip led them to Allen at the Abbington Landing Apartments.

“I looked out the window. I seen them approaching, so I just told everybody else that was in the house I didn't have anything to do with it [and] I might as well go ahead and go out,” he said.  “I waited, sat there, had to do some thinking, get my mind right, and I just walked out with my hands up.”

Allen told NewsChannel 3 he was not hiding from police, but he was waiting for police to find him.

“I felt like I ain't do it, so why would I just go turn myself in?” he said.  “I feel like I was trying to make them do their job and find me since they say I'm doing all this crazy stuff.”

Allen is facing murder, maiming and firearms charges.  Police are still looking for Floyd Taybron.  If you have any information about his whereabouts, call the CrimeLine at 1-888-LOCK-U-UP.
