Dozens of workers told NewsChannel 3 that the not-for-profit Survivors Not Victims didn't pay them for weeks of work.

They asked us to take action.

"The kids are going back to school. How do you expect people to live and not tell us nothing, just lock the doors in there, everything is locked up," said Yyvone Jones, an employee.

A sign on management's door said the checks would be delivered at 4 o'clock.

NewsChannel 3 knocked on the door, but no one answered. We called the number given on the flyer and no one picked up.

As afternoon faded into evening, many of the employees still hadn't gotten paid.

"They owe me 1,200 dollars. They gave me a hundred dollars," Jones said. "I'm going to get put out of my house because of these people."

Others received only a portion of what they say they were owed.

The staff worked all summer long for Survivors Not Victims, feeding children at summer programs throughout the Peninsula. Kenneth Fairbanks says he is owed money from June.

"It's tough. I still gotta go home and tell my wife that we can't take our kids back-to-school shopping," Fairbanks said.

All Fairbanks was able to leave with was a contract. He fears it's only worth the paper it's printed on. The employees continued to show their frustration, demanding someone come out to talk to them, but the boss went out the backdoor, avoiding NewsChannel 3 and the crowd.

"And the lady snuck out the door. She couldn't even talk to us," Jones said.

Fearing the workers would get out of hand, police were called and the people soon headed home, many of them empty-handed.

Another flyer was put up saying new management would answer their questions on Tuesday.
