Volleyball coach arrested for attempting indecent liberties with teen player

Newport News, Va. – Newport News police have arrested a volleyball coach on charges of attempting to take indecent liberties with a 14-year-old girl.

42-year-old Charles E. Cole of Hampton was arrested on Friday and charged with five counts of attempted indecent liberties with a minor and two counts of using a communications system to facilitate certain offences against children.

Police began investigating Cole on July 24th after receiving a complaint from one of the girl’s parents that a man had been chatting inappropriately and sending inappropriate photographs to her.

Mr. Cole is a NASA contractor who coaches for Hampton Christian Schools and also coached for the Peninsula Juniors Volleyball Club until April.

Cole was arrested without incident by the Newport News Police Department Fugitive Apprehension Unit and the US Marshals Capital Area Regional Task Force at his home in Hampton and is in custody at the Newport News City Jail.
