Newport News police have arrested a 25-year-old man for various sex crimes involving a 14-year-old girl.

On March 21, 2012, the father of a 14-year-old Newport News girl notified police that his daughter had been receiving and sending text messages that were sexual in nature.

Newport News police say their investigation led them to believe the girl had inappropriate sexual contact with the suspect. They say the sexual activity took place in a wooded area in the northern area of the city.

The officers also learned that the suspect and the girl had met on the website Tagged.com.

Detectives continued the investigation and obtained warrants for 25-year-old Timmie Tennell Williams of the 200 block of Whitestone Court in Newport News, charging him with one count each of Computer Use to Commit Sex Offenses with a Minor, Attempt to Commit a Felony, Carnal Knowledge of a Child 13-14 years old, and Indecent Liberties with a Child Under the Age of 15.

Williams was arrested at his residence about 6:15 p.m. on July 21, 2012, according to police.
