A Virginia Beach man is killed after his house catches fire.

A next door neighbor took pictures of the fire tearing away at the man's home on Rittman Road around nine o'clock Thursday night.

"To wake up, as soon as my eyes open, and this is what i see.  It really did something to me,"says Carl, a friend of the fire victim.

Carl says he saw the story on the news, and it was a very rude awakening, he says.
What he saw was the home that his friend had lived in for years; it was destroyed.

"He was a good-hearted man, and I hated to see this happen to him because he just was a good man," says Carl.

Carl says he worked along side the man, who was his boss, for the last 30 years at a local auto glass and upholstery company.

A relative told WTKR.com he was a veteran of the Korean War and lived in the home alone, but was too upset to tell us any more.

Friends say his sister moved out recently, and according to investigators, she went to a nursing home in Virginia Beach.

Right now, the name of the man hasn't been released, and we're told it may be a while because of how badly his body was burned.

The cause of the fire is also under investigation.
