It happened around 11:30 a.m. The vehicle is partially submerged in a small body of water nearby, police say. The driver is out of the vehicle, and not injured.  Officers are currently on scene.

NewsChannel 3 tried to talk to Virgie Hairston on her way out of court on Thursday morning but she wouldn’t answer our question of where the stolen check came from.

Hairston has been charged with conspiring to commit or assist in larceny after police say she and her boyfriend, Joshua Johnson, tried to pass a stolen check at the Wells Fargo drivethrough on 21st and Colonial on Monday.

Norfolk Police say two officers responded. One pulled up in front of Johnson’s car, blocking him in and another officer approached Johnson’s car from behind.

That’s when, police say Johnson put his car in reverse, hitting the officer behind him.

The officer in front of Johnson’s car shot several times through the windshield, killing Johnson.

Virgie Hairston is due back in court at the end of June.

(CNN) – Kaitlyn Hunt’s supporters say she is being prosecuted because she was in a sexual relationship with someone of the same sex. Authorities say it isn’t a gay rights issue at all, but rather a simple case of an adult inappropriately involved with a minor.

As public outrage mounts, fueled by Internet activism, 18-year-old Hunt has until Friday to decide whether she’ll accept a plea deal or go to trial for her relationship with a 14-year-old schoolmate.

Hunt is charged with two felony counts of lewd and lascivious battery in the relationship that the young woman and her parents say was consensual. The students attended Sebastian River High School in Sebastian, Florida,

While some of the 150,00 people signing an online petition asking prosecutors to drop the case have suggested that it’s being handled differently because it involves a same-sex relationship, Indian River County Sheriff Deryl Loar said that has nothing to do with it.

“If this was an 18-year-old male and that was a 14-year-old girl, it would have been prosecuted the same way,” he said.

CNN legal analyst Sunny Hostin concurs, saying whether the people involved are same-sex or opposite-sex, the legal issues are the same.

“A kid, a child under the age of 16, cannot consent to having sexual relations with an 18-year-old, an adult under the eyes of the law,” she said. “And that really is all this case comes down to when you look at it legally.”

The Indian River State Attorney’s Office has offered a plea deal that would reduce the charges to third-degree child abuse. As part of the package, she would get a year of probation and two years of monitoring, meaning she would have to wear an ankle bracelet.

It would be up to a judge to decide if she would be labeled a felon as she moves forward in life.

Her lawyer, Julia Graves, is asking that “common sense” prevail and that the charges be reduced to a misdemeanor.

“This is a life sentence for behavior that is all too common, whether male, female, gay, straight,” Graves said at a Wednesday news conference. “High school relationships may be fleeting, but felony convictions are forever.”

Charles Sullivan, an attorney for the 14-year-old, told CNN affiliate WPTV that the plea deal is fair.

“It takes into account the seriousness of the offense. It takes into account that it’s a violation of Florida law,” he said. “The plea offer allows her to enter a plea that she will not go to jail and she will not be labeled as a sex offender, so there’s no argument that her life is being ruined by this plea offer.”

A sometimes tearful Hunt said the whole thing frightens her.

“I’m scared of losing my life, the rest of my life, and not being able to go to college or be around kids, be around my sisters and my family,” she said, acknowledging the whirlwind that has surrounded her since the family went public with the story. “Definitely overwhelming to say the least. … Just kind of hopeful, hopeful for the best.”

Prosecutors have said they will not bend on the plea deal.

It was an amazing find off the San Diego coast by Navy dolphins — a rare 19th-century torpedo.

Space and Navy Warfare Systems Center Pacific has discovered and recovered one of the first self-propelled torpedoes developed and used by the U.S. Navy.

This rare torpedo, known as the Howell torpedo, was discovered in March off the San Diego coast, near the historic Hotel del Coronado.

The Howell torpedo was developed between 1870 and 1889.

“There were only 50 Howell torpedoes made, and we discovered one of the two ever found,” said Braden Duryee, operations supervisor for the SSC Pacific Biosciences Division.

The Navy trains dolphins to find and mark the location of underwater objects. Some of the objects the animals find, such as non-explosive Navy training mines, are expensive to replace.

In this case, the object found was an important piece of naval history.

“Dolphins naturally possess the most sophisticated sonar known to man.” said Duryee. “They can detect mines and other potentially dangerous objects on the ocean floor that are acoustically difficult targets to detect.”

The torpedo will be shipped to Washington DC where it will be preserved and displayed at the Naval History and Heritage Command.

Derrick Holt posted a picture on Facebook and Twitter, of what he says is a half-eaten worm next to his Sausage McMuffin.

He said at first, he thought it was just a piece of fat, but when he pulled it out, he discovered it wasn’t.

Derrick said he went straight to the manager – and that’s when he says things got even more strange:

“I was like, I think it’s a worm, and he goes, oh, no no, looks at it, picks it up, he’s like that’s just a bone. He says that happens all the time in our patties, in our hamburgers, in our chicken nuggets especially.”

Derrick said the manager took the sandwich and gave him a refund.

McDonald’s did respond to Derrick’s complaint, saying they are looking into the matter. They also gave him coupons for free meals.

A blogger is fighting back against Abercrombie & Fitch after CEO Mike Jeffries recent comments about the store’s refusal to sell any sizes bigger than a large and only wanting the “All-American kid with a great attitude and a lot of friends” to represent the brand.

Baker posed for ads of her own, posing topless with a male model, and a reinterpreted definition of the brand’s A&F letters – Attractive & Fat.

“I don’t really care what Abercrombie really truly thinks about this, to be honest with you. I don’t have the energy to dislike Mike Jeffries,” she said during an interview with Omg! Insider. “There’s so much negativity in the world, it doesn’t need to be perpetuated.”

Baker has also written an open letter to Jeffries on her website, the Militant Baker, criticizing the company for its narrow views.

She bought the winning ticket at the Kroger on Village Avenue in Yorktown.

She had a choice of taking the full $1 million over 25 years or a one-time cash option of $642,000 before taxes. She chose the cash option. The store received a $10,000 bonus from the Lottery for selling the winning ticket.

Ms. Leak, a student at Thomas Nelson Community College, told Lottery officials she has no immediate plans for the money.
