Juliet Bickford

Juliet Bickford is the 4:00pm and 5:00pm anchor at WTKR NewsChannel 3. She has enjoyed working in broadcast news for more than 10 years.

Juliet was named the 2010 Virginia Associated Press Broadcasters Best News Anchor of the Year. For the past two years, she has been proud to be working with Hampton Roads Regional Crime Line on a series called "Taking Action against Crime." Each week, NewsChannel 3 features fugitives in the Hampton Roads area. Juliet is asking viewers to take action to call the Crime Line to help catch them. Since the series started in November 2008, it has been very successful. "Taking Action against Crime" has helped catch more than 79 fugitives.

Juliet has been recognized for her work with the Hampton Roads Crime Line with several awards. She is the Virginia Crime Stoppers Association 2009 Media Representative of the Year. And Taking Action against Crime earned WTKR the 2009 "Top Cop Award" for Top Corporation. And, she was honored with the 2009 Media award from the Southeastern Crime Stoppers Association.

Juliet went to Washington and Lee University in Lexington, Virginia and graduated magna cum laude with degrees in Broadcast Journalism and Theater. Juliet started her journalism career as a weekend anchor and reporter at KACB in San Angelo, Texas. She moved to Roanoke, VA in 2002 and worked as the morning and noon anchor at WSLS until she moved back to Hampton in March 2008 to work for WTKR.

Juliet is a Hampton native and her family has a rich history there. The Bickfords first came to Hampton in the 1860's and her great-grandfather James V. Bickford was the mayor of Hampton for 25 years. He is still the longest serving Mayor in Hampton History.

Over the years, she has had some noteworthy assignments -- including covering the 2000 Olympic games in Sydney, Australia. Throughout her time in Roanoke, Juliet covered significant breaking news live from the anchor desk -- including the search for escaped inmate William Morva on Virginia Tech's campus and the death of Jerry Falwell.
She helped WSLS earn a 2007 Peabody Award for its coverage of the tragic shootings at Virginia Tech. Juliet anchored live breaking news coverage for eight hours on April 16, 2007 during the shootings. When she's not working, Juliet enjoys snow skiing, boating, theater, and the beach.
