    UPDATE: Police have now made several arrests in a homicide that occurred Monday morning. They’ve arrested and charged Leon Jerome Hayes, 33, and Naomi Nichelle Lambert, 22.     Jefferson Avenue reopens after early morning crash

    Newport News, Virginia – According to police, a man driving a Honda crashed into the back of a dump truck around 2:00am Thursday, becoming trapped inside his car. The dump truck was preparing to make a U-turn onto southbound Jefferson Avenue when the accident happened. The Newport News fire department utilized heavy duty rescue equipment to extricate the victim from the vehicle. Jefferson Avenue is now open in all directions. The accident is under investigation.

    Portsmouth Public Schools searching for new superintendent

    Portsmouth, Virginia – Portsmouth Public Schools will begin the school year searching for a new superintendent. Dr. David Stuckwisch retired earlier this year. The school board is turning to parents for input on what they would like to see in the next superintendent. There is an online survey for parent to let the board know what they think.     Newport News, Va. – Thursday morning, two Warwick High School students were shot and killed. They have been identified as 16-year-old Bryant Wilder and 17-year-old John Neives.
