    Newport News, VA –  The founder of a locally based academy and organization died Sunday. Walter Segaloff  a longtime business man and the founder of An achievable Dream Academy passed away from a heart attack. Earlier this summer NewsChannel 3 was a proud sponsor for one of the organizations events. The Run for a Dream Marathon in Williamsburg helped inspire kids from the academy to dream big.

    Virginia Beach VA –  Children with Autism found a sea of support today at the Oceanfront. With a huge crowd watching, the kids spent Saturday morning learning how to surf with the Surfers Healing Foundation Team. This is the eighth year that the event has taken place. Each year the Surfers Healing Foundation travels from California to Virginia Beach to put on the camp. The camp is free to families that are traveling around the country to take part.

  • More than 50 burglaries within a one mile radius in Chesapeake in six months

    CHESAPEAKE, VA – There have been more than 50 break ins around the Indian River section of Chesapeake in the past six months. Police have only made arrests in five of the cases. In all there were 54 break ins within a one mile radius, and 24 of those were at homes in the middle of the day.   • VA hospital patients escorted to the Hampton Cup Regatta

    Hampton, VA – They came by the bus loads on Sunday – veterans from the VA hospital were escorted to the 88th Annual Hampton Cup. The Patriot Guard’s Motorcycle Honor Guard made sure they arrived safely and the Hampton Elks Lodge 366 made sure our wounded heroes had a great time. The lodge also threw a pizza party for the veterans at the event.

  • Boaters rescued in York River

    York County, VA –  Boaters had to be rescued from their sinking boat Sunday afternoon on the York River. The rescue happened around 3:30 in the afternoon after three people reported water seeping into the vessel. By the time a fire boat was sent, they people were already in the water. According to York County Fire Officials their crews are always ready for days like this.

  • Husband arrested after his wife’s body is pulled from a river

    Fairfax County VA –  A Virginia woman’s body was pulled from the Occoquan River and now her husband sits in jail. Andrea Crew was last seen alive getting out of a beige Jeep Cherokee near a bank in the 5500 block of Cherokee Avenue in Alexandria on August 7th around 11:00 am.   • Star Wars characters entertain at Norfolk Zoo blood drive

    Norfolk, VA – Sunday the Norfolk Zoo hosted an American Red Cross Blood Drive. Each donor received free admission to the zoo. It was a fun event for all to enjoy however, the animals weren’t the only things that were catching eyes. A few Star Wars characters also made an appearance.
