Coast Guard suspends search for man missing after boat overturns on York River

JAMES CITY CO., Va. – The Coast Guard has suspended a search for a man reported missing in the York River on Tuesday.

A distress call came in shortly after 2 p.m. on Tuesday afternoon.

Officials were advised that a boat overturned with two people inside. They were able to yell for help and one of the men was rescued by another boater.

The second person, a 68-year-old man, went under the water and did not resurface. Officials said he was not wearing a life jacket.

The rescued man was taken to Riverside Regional Hospital.

Virginia Marine Police later reported the two men are brothers and identified the rescued man as James Polson. The missing man was identified as David Polson.

After searching with other agencies a combined total of approximately 553 square miles through the night, the Coast Guard suspended the search for David Polson at 8:20 a.m. Wednesday morning.
