NORFOLK, Va. - Police have arrested a man after a deadly shooting that happened in the 5500 block of E. Virginia Beach Blvd.

Marvin Eli Bazemore

Police responded to a home Tuesday around 2:39 p.m. for a gunshot disturbance.

Once there, they found 44-year-old Breon Daughtry inside an apartment suffering from a gunshot wound. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Marvin Bazemore Jr., 20, was arrested and charged with concealing a dead body and obstruction of justice.

On Thursday, Bazemore made his first court appearance for these charges. News 3 discovered he has an extensive criminal history, including traffic and drug charges as well as fleeing from police.

After the name of the victim was released, News 3 spoke to Antonio Newsome, Breon Daughtry's oldest brother. He said another one of his brothers was killed in 2002 and this is his second brother lost to gun violence.

Newsome is a pastor in Newport News and said he prays gun violence stops and those at odds begin to make amends.

Detectives are investigating this as an isolated incident and have not released the motive or circumstances surrounding the shooting.

Right now Bazemore is not charged with murder, but police said the investigation is not over yet.
