Family members identified the 16-year-old as Daquan Robinson. They say he was a sophomore at Hampton High School.

The call came in at 7:23 p.m. on Monday night. Officers arrived at the scene to find a moped, a Chevrolet pickup truck, a Hertz Rental box truck and a Nissan Maxima that were involved in a crash.

Robinson's friend was riding with him on his moped and seriously hurt, according to police and family.

Police said the driver of the Chevrolet pickup truck, a 60-year-old Hampton man, and the driver and the passenger of the Hertz rental box truck were also taken to a local hospital for treatment for non-life threatening injuries.

The driver of the Nissan Maxima was not injured.

An investigation revealed that the moped was stopped in the westbound lanes of W. Pembroke Avenue, and as the driver tried to make a left-hand turn onto Powhatan Parkway southbound the Chevrolet pickup truck that was traveling westbound on W. Pembroke Avenue hit the back of the moped. The force of moped and the pickup truck pushed both vehicles into the intersection, where they hit the Nissan Maxima that was making a left turn from Powhatan Parkway onto W. Pembroke Avenue eastbound.

"It’s just... it’s sad he was at a stoplight ready to go home, to take his friend home because his friend lived down the street and now he’s just gone," said Jalia Reeves, Robinson's girlfriend.

Family members say Robinson was a football player at Hampton High. His family is in disbelief. "My nephew was awesome," said Michelle Robinson, his aunt. " I just want justice to be served appropriately. He's going to be dearly missed."

The Hampton Police Division's Reconstruction Team is continuing to investigate the crash.
